Japan’s MS&AD Insurance plans to acquire UK insurer Amlin

Japan-based MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings is reportedly in talks to acquire Lloyd’s of London insurer, Amlin.

The deal could be valued at around £2.75bn, reported the Nikkei business daily.

Japanese firm spokesman was quoted by Reuters as saying that the two firms are in talks but nothing has been decided.

Amlin is an independent insurer, which is specialized in providing insurance cover to commercial enterprises and reinsurance protection to other insurance firms across the globe.

The firm underwrites more than 30 classes of business through three underwriting platforms, including Syndicate 2001 at Lloyd's, Amlin, Switzerland and Amlin Europe, The Netherlands.

Amlin offers property and casualty insurance services, as well as policies for the marine and aviation industries.

MS&AD has five business domains, including domestic life insurance business, domestic non life insurance business, financial services business, international business and risk-related services business.
